What are Update Alerts?

Update alerts are potentially a highly visible and effective means of informing users about important and personally relevant changes. Also termed ‘activity streams’, these are how designers tell users about general changes (i.e., those relating to the overall user experience) or context-specific changes (e.g., bulletins showing users friends’ status updates whenever they log in to their personal homepages).
