Welcome and Introduction

Having such an inviting work environment as this can do wonders for the working mind. One popular misconception about a coffee shop is that someone might blur the line between business and pleasure. However, that notion overlooks the whole point of freelancing—which is all about freedom, self-pride and responsibility—and implies that offices should be imposing and unfriendly places. One concept we at IxDF hold very dear is this: If you love your work, you should be able to love doing it in a setting you love, too.

We live in exciting times, with ever-changing ways of doing things and achieving goals. The Internet and working by distance has turned the tables on the old order in many industries. As a result, it’s thrown open the doors on a brave new world of redefining roles and possibilities. Have you ever thought about how great the difference is between working in a “job” and truly delivering what you’re good at and love doing, with you as your own boss?

Welcome to the world of the Freelancer and Entrepreneur—a thriving hub of opportunity, commerce and, overall, freedom. As IxDF’s founders can confirm, it’s a place where you can define and design your way of life around what you want to do as you add value to clients and businesses around the globe. New technologies have brought new chances—gone are the days of being caged by the forms of employment our ancestors had to take. As ever-growing numbers of businesses turn from in-house hiring to outsourcing to save money and choose from a wide talent pool without risking hiring the wrong staff, the Freelancer or Entrepreneur has never had it so good.

This lesson gives you an in-depth overview of those possibilities: namely, how you can use different business models to access a wide range of clients; the potential to grow beyond a one-person business, if you desire; why this new way is so different from “normal” employment; the potential for working anywhere you want while saving money; and which industries suit this best.

Never before in history have people had so great a chance to get out there and explore than in this exceptional era. So, as you see if this is truly the way forward for you, take heart in knowing that both the founders and employees of IxDF and the many, many freelancers and entrepreneurs who have taken courses with us can say that the possibilities are only limited by the mind. Here, we’ll show you how to explore them and parts of yourself you may have been ignoring for too long.
