Tadao Ichikawa was born in Kyoto, Japan, on May 11, 1936. He received the B.E. and Ph.D. degrees in engineering from Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan, in 1962 and 1971, respectively. Since 1979 he has been a Professor in the Department of Engineering at Hiroshima University. In the summer of 1972 he was a Post Doctoral Research Associate in the Department of Computer Science of the University of Iowa, Iowa City. From 1962 to 1968 he worked for Kokusai Denshin Denwa Co., Ltd. in the Research and Development Laboratories. His current research interests are image processing and related computer architectures. He ofganized the Panel Sessions, "Architecture for Pattern Recognition Applications" and "Associative Processors-Why Are They Needed? What Can We Expect in the Future?" at the National Computer Conferences in 1977 and 1979, respectively. He is Co-Editor with K. S. Fu of Special Computer Architectures for Pattern Processing (CRC Press, 1981). Dr. Ichikawa is a member of the Institute of Electronics and Communication Engineers. He is an IEEE Fellow.
