What is Complex Network Data?

Networks are collections of data that are related to each other not by dependence but rather by connection and/or containment. Simple networks can be represented easily using techniques such as mind mapping or concept maps. However, more complex data sets require more complex information visualizations to represent them. As the number of nodes and branches increase – graphs quickly become overwhelming and hard to interpret.
