Hey Hasty!

Are snacks and beverages being served?

Hi Mariana,
Yes, as far as I know, CIBC will likely provide some snacks and water.

Unfortunately, I am hosting an event that very same evening! Would have been nice meeting the CIBC researchers - I led the team that built the first CIBC Online banking back in mid 90s!

Hi Evelyn,
It would have been nice to have you at the event. Hope to see you next time. Best of luck with your event!

Unfortunately, I am at a work event this evening and will not be able to attend.

Hi Callum,
You’ll be missed! Hope to meet you next time.

seems the registration is already full/closed? :(

Hi Mark,
Yes, registration closed quickly due to the limited capacity at the CIBC location. Hope to meet you in our next meetup.

The registration is closed can I still attend

Hi Anas,
As I replied to your email, I did my best to confirm participant attendance to check the possibility of opening spots for the waitlist. I found four spots and announced them to everyone on the waitlist, but they were quickly filled as well.
Hope to meet you in the future events.

Thanks Hasty for putting this together. I’m really looking forward to the meetup.

This meetup is gonna be awesome! Don’t forget to post about it on socials with #ixdf and #ixdflocalgroups so others can see and join next time! 🚀

Hi Hasty! I got a similar “registration closed” message when I followed the event sign-up link. I would like to attend if it’s still possible :)

Hi Matt,
I wish you could have joined us for this meetup, but unfortunately, all spots have been filled.

Ah ok. I didn't receive any notification that this event was even happening until a day or two ago, and I immediately followed the link once I received the late email. Like many others here, wasn't able to sign up. I'm a little disappointed to be honest. I really joined IxDF to participate in in-person meet ups to network. There appears to be a significant amount of confusion on this one and I don't think the communication has been particularly strong. Very disappointing, and some lack of transparency it feels. How many spots were available, and who was able to get them? Are we able to see that, and can you tell us when you sent the original communications?

All the best,

M.C.

Hey Matt, I’m sorry about the confusion and I can understand the disappointment, we are also shocked by how fast this event filled up and how much demand there was. There was room for 30 people which is much more than have ever shown up to an IxDF Toronto event before. It was announced on Feb 15 via the IxDF platform where all members should have been sent an automated e-mail.

We needed to use the Luma registration link because we are unable to set a limit on number of attendees on the IxDF platform but are at an external venue which had a hard limit and security constraints which needed additional registration details. We also are unable to control the automated e-mails from the platform. Now that we see how much confusion this creates we will try to figure a way to improve communication in the future.

Thank you for your feedback on communication and your patience with us as we figure out the best way to do this and what topics and types of events are popular so we can plan for them, we are run by volunteers and are doing our best with limited capacity trying to create value for all of the other members.

Hi Hasty

Unfortunately, I have an event tomorrow evening and will not be able to attend… hopefully next time 😊

Hi Sharona,
Enjoy the event, and I hope to meet you at future meetups!

Hi Hasty,
Seems like the registration is closed, is there a waitlist I can join or would you be filling any cancellation seats?
please let me know
Thanks!

Hi Kanupriya,
I have to say that all spots for this meetup have been filled.
Hope to meet you at future meetups.

Hey everyone! I noticed that some of us couldn’t join this event since registration is closed and there are no more spots—myself included. 😔 So, I thought, why not have a casual meetup for some drinks tomorrow if you're available? 🙂 Let me know if you're interested, and I can set up another event so we can connect and chat about design!

@Hasty I think the confusion here is we all “registered” via IDxF site and assumed we are on the list. The additional registration link, I assume, was to confirm “attendance”. Is this correct? I have been working with the assumption I am on the list but sounds like (based on others experiences) I am not :( … I missed the second “registration” …. I can understand the need for a second registration due to space but I believe this second link was missed in the call out to join the meetup. Or not well placed, that I missed it. Is there a way to see who is on the confirmed attendance list?

I got the same confusion and ‘assume’. It is a good example of how unclear registration flows can lead to confusion and frustration. The process should be communicated at each step to avoid misunderstandings if multiple registrations are required.

So sorry about the confusion, if you did not register through the Luma link you are unfortunately unable to attend today due to space and attendees needed to be cleared by security beforehand.

We are unable to set a limit on number of attendees on the IxDF platform but are at an external venue which had a hard limit and security constraints which needed additional registration details, so we needed to use the Luma registration link. We also are unable to control the automated e-mails from the platform. Now that we see how much confusion this creates we will try to figure a way to improve communication in the future.

Thank you for your feedback on how we could make the registration link information more clear in the future, we will definitely try to communicate that more clearly and put the link more front and centre. We are blown away by the interest in this event, it was certainly unprecedented as other events we have had maybe 4 or 5 people show up. Now that we know this is a popular topic and event format we will try to organize more opportunities like this in the future.

Could the host please confirm what mode of “registration” is valid? I am yet another attendee who didn’t realize they would have to register in two different ways - I’m just finding this out now - and because getting downtown from the west end in rush hour is not very enjoyable, it would be good to know in advance whether or not I’ll be able to get in.

Chris, I’m so sorry about the confusion we will try to make the registration link more clear in the future, if you did not register through the Luma link you are unfortunately unable to attend today due to space and attendees needed to be cleared by security beforehand due to the venue.

Now that we know this is of interest to so many people we will try to organize some similar opportunities.

Hey, I registered for the meetup a few days ago and got a confirmation email. But now I see there was a second registration step that I didn’t complete, and it’s showing as full. Does this mean I’m not fully registered and can’t attend? I had planned to join, so I just want to check if there’s anything I can do. Thanks!

Arina, unfortunately for this event if you did not register through the Luma link you are unable to attend today due to space and attendees needed to be cleared by security beforehand due to the venue.

I’m so sorry about the confusion we will try to make the registration link more clear in the future. We will try to organize more in-person meetups on similar topics in the future to create more opportunities for people to connect.

Hey Chris,

Thanks for getting back to me! I'm still a bit confused though. I got an email saying I’m in, but today I couldn’t see the event details—it said the spot is full. My picture is still up on the attendees list, so I'm hoping that means I'm all set? Could you double-check if I'm good for today at the CINC building? I’ve cleared my day to be there!

Hi Arina, if you only chose attending on this platform (IxDF) or through the e-mail from this platform, then you are not registered for the event and you will not be admitted to the building due to security (registrants needed to be granted passes through the limited registration on the Luma platform).

To register for the event, you needed to use the Luma link which was provided in the event details. If you registered through Luma you will have already been sent all of the details for the event and given your pass.

I appreciate the response Ryan, and a big thanks to Hasty as well. I’m grateful that you folks are putting these together in the first place and I’m confident that it will be an awesome event for everyone attending this evening. FOMO for sure, amazing first spot for an in-person event!

Hi, thank you for hosting the event last night! The workshop was very insightful. Do we know if the presentation will be shared with the participants after the event?

IxDF Members show their interest to attend a meetup by clicking the “Attend this meetup” button.

IxDF Members might also be bringing their non-member friends to the meetup (and you're welcome to do the same), but their non-member friends will not be shown as “attending” because this feature is only available to members.

P.S.: Note that the number of attendees is not an indication of its value! Small meetups work perfectly, and can facilitate deeper, more fruitful conversations.
