Meetup Conversation

Hi all! Please use this conversation thread to discuss IxDF Leeds - October online meetup held on Oct 7, 2025. Feel free to ask questions about the place, date and time, agenda of the meeting, or anything else.

Good morning all! I had to change the time from 5:30PM to 5PM, let me know if that’s an issue for anyone. Also, any particular topics you’d like to bring to the meetup?

Hey Anna, thanks for arranging this, I’d like to discuss workshopping and quantitative research skills, if that’s possible?

Hey Azeem, that sounds great. We can definitely talk about that!

Also, I got a message saying that 5PM is a little early, I’ll be on at that time anyway as I was asked by a couple other people to open the doors earlier than 5:30PM, but you’re very welcome to drop in at any time is convenient for you all.

Looking forward to seeing you all later on!

Me again!

I have to jump off early, but here are a couple of the articles mentioned this evening - it would be great to get some thoughts from the people that couldn’t make it tonight, too!

———

The article describes the car’s voice assistant glowing red and saying “Oh, don’t make me blush.” That’s a kind of “emotional illusion.” What role does design play in making that believable (tone, timing, visuals)?

  1. Is it misleading (or even harmful) to have machines simulate emotions? Under what conditions?

  2. Should there be transparency (e.g., disclaimers) when machines “act” emotional?

  3. Does it make sense, though, to increase adoption in these products to have them emulate emotions?

Hiya, really sorry I couldn’t make this one, something personal came up. Hope the session was a blast, and look forward to seeing if there is another one in future.

Will look into the above links you’ve shared and get back to you :)

Meetup attendees

IxDF Members show their interest to attend a meetup by clicking the “Attend this meetup” button.

IxDF Members might also be bringing their non-member friends to the meetup (and you're welcome to do the same), but their non-member friends will not be shown as “attending” because this feature is only available to members.

P.S.: Note that the number of attendees is not an indication of its value! Small meetups work perfectly, and can facilitate deeper, more fruitful conversations.
