Meet-Up Discussion

Hi all! Please use this discussion thread to discuss What does UX look like in 2019? held on Jan 28, 2019. Feel free to ask questions about the place, date and time, agenda of the meeting, or anything else.

Hi all! Look forward to chatting with you all tonight. I had to push back the official start time to 6:30pm as I'll be on at that time to facilitate the session. If you're eager to jump on earlier and @Julia (one of your other community leaders) is still happy to jump on at 6:00pm, then go for it!

Reminder of the call link: https://zoom.us/j/799597675

Last thing, Zoom free only allows up to 40 minutes per group call. If you get kicked off, please rejoin using the same link. Thanks :)

Hello All!
As @Charles mentioned I will be online from 6pm.

Really looking forward to have a chat this evening regards the what UX looks like in 2019.

Some of the areas that I had a think about and believe will be relevant in 2019:

* Discussion about What UX Really Is? I believe this will still be a debate in 2019.
* More and more new tools for wireframes / design are appearing - do we really need so many, or should we improve the UX of existing tools?
* I believe that UX Strategy is going to be more prominent and stakeholders will take it more into consideration.
* More companies are building in-house UX teams
* How does AI affects UX industry? More new jobs or existing jobs update their skill-set?

Talk to you all later.

Julz

Morning all,

Thanks to those who could make it, we had some brilliant discussions last night. Here's some of the key highlights I'd like to share with you all.

UX Trends in 2019:

  • We hope these misunderstood hybrid UX/UI/Developer/everything-but-the-kitchen-sink unicorn roles will finally start to disappear (!)
  • By learning to speak their language, we hope the disconnect between UXers and project Stakeholders will start to close.
  • UXers who make the effort to understand the business and commercial side will probably do better this year.

Of course I'm biased, but I believe using tools like the Design Sprint can help to tackle the last two points effectively smile.gif.

Quote of the Session

"We found that by printing slides or whatever materials you have to show your stakeholders, hanging them up on walls and giving people pens encourages them to engage with and co-create your work".

– Carolina B.

Lastly, a couple of books were mentioned which we generally recommend anyone read:

Next Meetup

The general consensus was that we should have a Meetup to discuss common problems we're encountering in our work and organisations. Sound cool? Let us know!

Thanks, and enjoy!

Meet-up attendees

Members can show their interest to attend a meet-up by clicking “Attend this meet-up” button. In addition, since Local Groups events are open to all, non-members can also attend these meet-ups.

Members might be bringing their non-member friends to a Local Group meet-up (and you’re welcome to do the same), but their non-member friends will not be shown as “attending” because this feature is only available to members.

P.S.: Note that the number of attendees is not an indication of its value! Small meet-ups work perfectly, and can facilitate deeper, more fruitful conversations.
