A Local Group is a group of people who, like you, are passionate about design. Local Groups organize meetings to get inspired, have fun and learn from one another.

Meet-Up Details

Hi IxDF Chicago, This is a community-member lead event. Let’s meet up and network over coffee! Share UX design insights and resources, discuss UX problems you are facing now, or just chat about anything else. It’s going to be an informal, cozy meet-up with fellow designers!

I wanted to continue the monthly meetup to discuss ways UX can help to tackle some most pressing humanitarian issues in the world these days.

Below are links to some topics I wanted to discuss, but you are free to bring your own:

I will plan to host this at my place, but you are free to make suggestions on any cafes should the group be bigger than 5-8 people. Thanks!

Meet-Up Discussion

Hi all! Please use this discussion thread to discuss UX for Humanity held on Jan 15, 2023. Feel free to ask questions about the place, date and time, agenda of the meeting, or anything else.

Hi Klara! We’ve tried to contact you personally on many occasions, but it doesn’t seem we can get a hold of you!

Can you please confirm in the “about the event” info, that this is a community-member lead event and post a comment below as well?

This will ensure people have the best experience when attending the event and mitigate any confusion or mishaps.

Hi! I am sorry! Yes, this will happen at my place on the 15th, unless the group gets bigger than 8 people, or you prefer a cafe? Also, how did you try to get a hold of me? I know there’s a slack channel, what is the workspace URL again?

Hi Klara!

I went ahead and adjusted the event in the description to state that this is a “community-member lead event.” Can you also make sure to keep a close eye on the meetup now that it is approaching quickly?

We ask this to not assume liability for any sudden responsibility issues, cancellations, or mishaps on our end. We have had some really intense mishaps by member-lead events, over the last 3-4 years, and have to ask this! (No-shows, sudden changes, cancellations, etc.) I hope you can understand our needs for these requests because of this.

Unless there is another Klara Jarolimova imitating you, it does seem you are in our Slack Community.

Our Slack URL is: idf-chicago.slack.com

Hi Rachel, thank you for sharing the slack URL - somehow it is not sending me back 6 letter code. Klara suggested you could you extend the invite, could you help ? Thank you!

Klara, You definitely have access to the Chapter slack, I tried to follow up with you after your November event, after people were left waiting for you to show up. I am not sure if you saw the chapter-wide email last December that had a link to the statement generated by leadership that set out the expectations for events generated by members of this chapter. For your convenience: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Ab4dL6dzzxG1A_-ubpL-ZU3OhXj1MkvN0VupcfgCDt8

Yes, I saw your comment on Slack and here. I told the barista to let you know I had a medical emergency and wrote it on the event page. Apologies again!! I’m checking this daily now before the event. It’s still at my place unless more than eight people are attending. The place is not big enough for more than eight! I hope no one has cat allergies, because we’d have to move to a cafe near by!! Let me know!! I’m also posting on Slack!

Klara. You didn’t respond to my question on Slack. I asked  you if you attended your event because a person who attended that event indicated to me that the barista conveyed to them that you were running late but you would attend.

In the guidelines, we specify pick a location and stick to it. The location should be stable and not contingent on anything for at least two reasons. 1) it isn’t sound to plan an event that might or might not happen in a location because it makes it hard for people to plan or even attend and is potentially a massive waste of a potential attendee’s time.  2) That the location can change last minute, assumes people can access the event page and load the new information - and you cannot assume that bandwidth. These are just two of the reasons for the policy of a stable location. I also find it deeply concerning that you have posted your personal address on a public web page.

Got it! I will share the detailed location on Slack then. I only said the location would change if more than eight people attended.

Hi there! I am an attendee and would like to know how to join our Slack community

I think you can ask Rachel for an invite! I’ll ping her to let her know.

Hi all! So it looks like we’re at total capacity. I’m still planning to have this at my place, but if it gets crowded, we’ll have to move to a cafe around here (there are many). Also, this is BYOC (bring your coffee). I have some, but you’re encouraged to bring your favorite. Thanks!

Hi everyone, the address stays the same. I dropped my phone number in Slack should you need to call it with any questions. Please bring your favorite brew tomorrow. See you soon!

Meet-up attendees

Members can show their interest to attend a meet-up by clicking “Attend this meet-up” button. In addition, since Local Groups events are open to all, non-members can also attend these meet-ups.

Members might be bringing their non-member friends to a Local Group meet-up (and you’re welcome to do the same), but their non-member friends will not be shown as “attending” because this feature is only available to members.

P.S.: Note that the number of attendees is not an indication of its value! Small meet-ups work perfectly, and can facilitate deeper, more fruitful conversations.
