Meet-Up Details

Hi IxDF Portland, We had a couple of issues with our last meetup. We are sorry about that. But we are conducting another meetup this week!

In our video call, we will conduct a quick heuristic evaluation of a website. This website will be selected randomly during the meetup call.

We will be using Nielsen's Heuristics to conduct the usability inspection. We've included some links below so you can brush up on the topic. Don't worry, we'll also be giving a brief explanation on heuristics before we get started on the activity.

We will also prototype design suggestions. BYOT (Bring Your Own Tool)! This could be pen/paper/legos.

Save the date, grab your laptop, put on your detective hats and let's find some bugs!

Meet-Up Discussion

Hi all! Please use this discussion thread to discuss IxDF Portland - Heuristic Evaluation Meetup held on Nov 14, 2020. Feel free to ask questions about the place, date and time, agenda of the meeting, or anything else.

Hi, all! How do you break down heuristic evaluations for a large project? Do you do page-by-page, by workflow, by user type...?

Good question!

IMO, In Heuristic Evaluation, the evaluators have the freedom to explore the interface in any way they want. Usually, it's done in two passes. In the first pass, they will explore the entire interface by going through various product flows. In the second pass, they might have identified elements they want to inspect further. Parallelly, usability problems are recorded and tagged with respective heuristic with severity level (or reason/description).

You can ask them to prioritize certain tasks, but it is up to the evaluators. The evaluators you select for Heuristic Evaluation are usability experts, and you rely on their expertise and domain knowledge for discovering the problems.

Heuristic eval happening now! Come join as we look for bugs and build solutions!

Meet-up attendees

Members can show their interest to attend a meet-up by clicking “Attend this meet-up” button. In addition, since Local Groups events are open to all, non-members can also attend these meet-ups.

Members might be bringing their non-member friends to a Local Group meet-up (and you’re welcome to do the same), but their non-member friends will not be shown as “attending” because this feature is only available to members.

P.S.: Note that the number of attendees is not an indication of its value! Small meet-ups work perfectly, and can facilitate deeper, more fruitful conversations.
