Meet-Up Details

Howdy Hey folks,

Hope you are doing well. Having just finished Don Norman’s course from IxDF on design for the 21st century I am keen to have some in-depth conversations about key questions about design as we move forward with living on Earth.

What might need to change about the design thinking process?

What if Earth becomes inhabitable what do we need to be designing now if that were to happen 100 years from now?

Looking forward to some interesting conversations.

Also, looking for a good location that is not a Starbucks (I just find it is often hard to have great conversations as it is too noisy).

Have an amazing day,

Adam.

Howdy, folks,

Win! I managed to grab a spot inside!

Great chatting with Hossein, Shirley, and Dexter and learning from opinions both similar and different from each other.

Common themes that came out of the discussion:

  • Perspective on a problem vs motivation to care

  • Roles played in life (at work and outside of work) or roles played as an organization in their market, affiliated markets up to international influence

  • Authority vs empowerment

  • Specialist vs generalist

  • Barriers vs continuous improvement (co-workers to law makers)

  • Incremental change over tackling everything all at once.

All the intersections of these considerations result in a spectrum of stakeholders and personas for people and the type of action they want/will take and concern they have with respect to the issue.

If we want to design for the most complex issues like climate change we need to meet people where they are to get buy in to participate.

From the person who only cares about the cheapest price no matter the impact, with a single click, to the person wanting to create a movement.

Meet-up attendees

Members can show their interest to attend a meet-up by clicking “Attend this meet-up” button. In addition, since Local Groups events are open to all, non-members can also attend these meet-ups.

Members might be bringing their non-member friends to a Local Group meet-up (and you’re welcome to do the same), but their non-member friends will not be shown as “attending” because this feature is only available to members.

P.S.: Note that the number of attendees is not an indication of its value! Small meet-ups work perfectly, and can facilitate deeper, more fruitful conversations.
