Frans Van Assche works at European Schoolnet as Senior manager. He is in charge of the Standards and Interoperability Strand and is the chief architect of the CELEBRATE brokerage system, the Knowledge Management System, and semantic interoperability tools. Frans leads the CEN/ISSS project team on ‘Harmonisation of vocabularies’. He is vice-chair of the CEN/ISSS workshop on Learning Technologies, and Director of European IMS Network. He is an associate professor at the School of Economics EHSAL, Brussels. Frans was project manager for EU funded projects such as RUBRIC, Web for Schools (WfS), WfS-ESIS, and the EUN multimedia project. He was the technical manager of the CELEBRATE project. He has been reviewer, evaluator, and rapporteur for EU projects and various working groups of the European Commission. He has written numerous articles and books and has served on various scientific programme committees. He is silver core member of the International Federation of Information Processing (IFIP) and former secretary of WG 8.1.
