Welcome new members - August meet-up

Hi all! Please use this discussion thread to discuss Welcome new members - August meet-up held on Sep 9, 2018. Feel free to ask questions about the place, date and time, agenda of the meeting, or anything else.

Hey Julia, I meant to attend this but something else came up. Did you have a good turn out? Also do you have LinkedIn or Slack?

Hi! I was looking forward to meet everyone in person, however I am a part of Saint Louis Art Fair this weekend. Unless it's going to be cancelled due to the weather I will be there all weekend. Hope to see you all next time.

Good to be here and hope to meet more folks in the area. I've been a web/software developer for nearly 26 years. I'm currently Front-end Architect/Product Designer (really, the only designer) at my current company which is a health care startup in St. Louis. I've worked for both large companies and start-ups over my career, run my own consulting company and likely a number of other pseudo-interesting things in my time.

I'm a self-taught developer, having initially majored in Fine Arts (among other attempted majors); and have been spending more time in all the various aspects of both design and user research over the last 3 years because of the roles/responsibilities I've taken on in my work. I'm hoping to learn as much as I can across the Design area, so any mentors or advice would go along way. I'm also willing to help mentor folks in the development side of digital products if there are designers or others here who are looking to expand into those roles or skills.

Won't be able to make the meetup this Sunday, as I have a prior engagement; but I'll try to get out to them when I can. I'm married and have five kids (age 9 to 19), so I don't have a lot of free time to get out and network in person.

Looking forward to continuing the IxDF classes I'm taking and meeting others across the design field here in the St. Louis area!

Thanks David for sharing your story! Hope you can join a meetup in another time.
