William O. Beeman is Professor of Anthropology and Theatre, Speech and Dance at Brown University. In 2004-5 he has been Visiting Professor of Cultural and Social Anthropology at Stanford University.
Professor Beeman is a linguistic anthropologist, and specialist in the culture and discourse of technology and political life, especially in the Middle East, Japan, South Asia, Europe and North America. He is former director of the Office of Policy Research of the Institute for Research in Information and Scholarship at Brown University, a research center forcussing on the social effects of computer technology in academic and institutional life. The Office has produced more than 60 publications, including Object, Image and Inquiry: The Art Historian at Work and The Intermedia Project
