Dr. Philippe Palanque is professor in Computer Science at the University Toulouse 3. Since 1998 Philippe Palanque is head of LIIHS research team now located within IRIT (Toulouse Research Institute in Computer Science).
Starting 1995 he spent 2 years at CENA (Research centre of civil aviation) to develop and apply formal specification and interactive system design techniques to the field of air traffic control. For 4 years now he is involved in several research projects funded by the French Department of Defence dealing with the notations and tools for the specification of real-time interactive systems (including Command and Control systems for drones, multimodal interfaces for military cockpits, …). As for civil aviation, he is now involved in the certification issues of new interactive cockpits (that have to be compliant with ARINC 661 specification standard) of aircraft including A380, A400M and Boeing 7E7.
He is chair of the IFIP Working group 13.5 on Human Error Safety and System Development and chaired with Chris Johnson the track on that topic within the IFIP WCC 2004. He edited and co-edited eight books or conference proceedings. As for 2004 and 2005, he is co-chair with Gerd Szwillus of the European HCI research track for the ACM conference CHI 2004, general chair with Rick Kazman of the IFIP 13.4 working conference on Engineering Human Computer Interaction, Program chair of TAMODIA conference on Tasks Modelling and Diagrams, tutorial co-chair of the IFIP TC 13 INTERACT 2005 conference.
