Eric Bergman is passionate about helping his clients communicate effectively, and his personal motto is: “Improve what you touch.”

He has been a professional communicator for nearly 30 years, starting as a public affairs officer with the Government of Alberta. For the past 25 years (and since 1987 from the Toronto area), he has been a self-employed communication consultant.

A generalist for the first few years of self-employment, Eric has spent nearly 20 years providing presentation skills, public speaking and media training to clients in North America, South America, Europe and Asia.

His workshops, seminars and one-on-one coaching have improved the presentation skills of thousands of professionals, managers, salespeople, politicians and senior executives. But he provides a full package of services; his experience as a professional communicator in virtually all industries enables him to help clients shape content to achieve business results.

On the media training side, he invested years in the development of At Ease With the Media in the early 1990s as a program to set the standard of excellence in the public relations industry. Today, he is the person who has literally “written the book” on that standard, with the publication of Media Training With Excellence: A Balanced Approach by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) in 2006.

For the past 15 years, his has written articles and delivered presentations that question the logic of blindly staying on message. At first he was a lone voice. Today, he is leading a growing chorus.

Eric earned a bachelor of professional arts from Athabasca University in 2009. “I always told the kids I'd finish before they did,” he jokes. “And I did with a couple years to spare.” He also holds a two-year diploma in advertising & public relations from Grant MacEwan College (1982) in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

He is accredited by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC, 1991) and the Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS, 1993). He is a master communicator (2002), which is the highest distinction that can be bestowed upon an IABC member in Canada. He has earned more than a dozen local, national and international awards for his work.
