Call For Papers / Call For Participation (CfP)

At this year’s workshop, we aim to balance discussion of technological factors with human aspects in order to explore implications for better design. Thus, the theme is ‘information retrieval, decision making processes, and user needs in the context of ubiquitous computing’.

A particular focus will be how user needs could be incorporated into the enhanced design of ubiquitous computing systems such as smart homes, assistive technologies, and collaborative systems. Such systems capture information of various types in order to make decisions which meet human needs, depending on the context. In order to design and develop systems which can be successfully deployed, it is necessary to take user needs into account from the outset.

We wish to attract a wide range of participants involved in designing such systems, who can contribute to knowledge about the role of user needs. We would expect submissions from different practitioners and researchers working in a variety of application and domain areas.

* The workshop topics include, but are not limited to:
* User-centred design approaches for ubiquitous systems
* Collaborative and mobile computing
* Smart homes
* Assistive technology
* Requirements engineering methods for ubiquitous and collaborative systems
* Ethnographically-informed system design
* Context aware systems
* User modelling
* Approaches, methods and techniques for information representation and retrieval

Submission Details

All submitted papers will be reviewed by the programme committee of the iUBICOM 09. Papers are limited to 12 pages in Springer's LNCS format. Position papers up to 4 pages are also welcome. For more details see http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs. The best papers will be published in the main Proceedings of the 26th British National Conference on Databases published by Springer LNCS. The rest of the papers will be published in post workshop proceedings. Extended versions of the selected papers may be published in different journals. Currently, we are considering several Journals.

Submit your papers directly to Dr. Rahat Iqbal at: r.iqbal@coventry.ac.uk for review

process.
